Ed gawked for a moment "well then..." he said, resisting the urge to run as far away as he possibly could. "I know I'm not dreaming...or drunk...and I don't smoke anything other than tobacco..." he said slowly. "Could I uh...you kids aren't from around here, are you?" he asked, swallowing a terrified yelp in the process. He didn't just need a cigarette right now, he needed a serious drink.

"Uhh, no. No, we're from pretty damn far away," Ella replied sheepishly. "And this isn't his only form, by the way. He's got thousands of them. We've pretty much been gathering as many as we can, just for fun."
Marcus gave a whimper, then returned to human form for a moment to say, "Yeah, and the animals around here are boring as hell." Then he changed into an ordinary cat they had come across a few hours ago. Ella picked him up so he wouldn't feel small. "So, what do you think... about that?" She asked Ed.

Ed stared blankly for a moment, before (slightly) regaining his composure and saying "should I really ask where you two are from, exactly? Or, is that just too long a story for right now?" He then shook his head, adding "Never mind, that can wait. The point is, I know a lot of people 'round here who would want an ability like that. You two need to be careful."

"Too long of a story, for sure," Ella said. It was a long story, but she was pretty much just too lazy to explain it. "I'm not sure how long we're staying here, since it's pretty much up to everyone in our group EXCEPT us, but we're not expected back for a while. I just wanted to head back because I hate this city."
Marcus squirmed out of Ella's arms and changed back into a human for good. "I'm sorry if I scared you," he said quietly, shrinking back into the dark alley a little bit.
"I'm sure he'll be fine," Ella reassured him, patting his head. It was always better to treat him like a small animal after he had been a small animal. The opposite didn't apply, for some reason. He hated being treated like an beast after being a beast. "Okay, we're getting a little sidetracked here. THE POINT IS that we can cause some serious damage to whoever's in that building. If you'd rather just go home or whatever, I guess that's fine too."

He fiddled with his pockets in thought. It would be very nice to sic a giant monster thing on the White Rose operation; it'd get him more business, and possibly put Lizzie out of danger, as far as assassinations and such were concerned. And, of course, it'd get him out of his debt too. However, on the other hand, he was risking not only his life but, also the lives of two innocent(?) children. He had also sworn to repay his debt to them. And if Edward Valentine was one thing, he was a man of his word. He turned to Marcus and Ella "Hey, Marcus, Ella..." he began "I appreciate the offer, I really do but, I think we ought to leave this one to the cops. It's more satisfying for them ya know? Besides, I don't want kids being convicted for murder. Or, worse, being targeted by one of the operations here. I love this city, I really do but, it's a dangerous place in these streets..." "But, the thing is, you two need to get out of here. Give it at least..." he paused in thought, for a moment "four days. Give the cops four days to try and find some evidence" three days and his debt was due...the extra day was just a precaution to make sure they didn't interfere...

Ella sighed. There went her fun night. "Sure, I guess that's cool," she said, even though it was pretty obvious she didn't find it cool at all. "Are you okay with that, Marcus?" The shapeshifter nodded shyly.
"Well, if we're not whupping any ass tonight, what do you want to do?" She asked Ed. They probably weren't expected to meet up with the group for several days, so they had time.

Ed mentally sighed with relief. Hopefully, they hadn't been spotted, and were off the hook for the night. "First, I need to get you two a place to spend the night. Then, I need to go home. I doubt Nate's very good at being comforting..."

"Sure, lead the way," Ella said, beckoning for Ed to go.
Marcus hovered close to Ella as they walked. It wasn't normal for a form to turn him into such a pathetic mess, so Ella just hoped it would wear off soon. Another reason Earth was terrible; it's animals messed with Marcus' emotions more than usual.
"So, Ed Valentine, how come you're caught up in this murder business?" Ella asked. "Why would someone want to kill your sister's boyfriend?"

"Excuse you, her name is Elizabeth, and I'm not in the "murder business"!" Ed replied defensively as they walked on. "It's simple, I owe a debt, and the guy I owe is getting impatient. He knows that Lizzie's the only family I have. I was being stupid when I made the deal, shouldn't've mentioned her..." he was lost in his thoughts for a moment, before adding "anyway, this is the first time anyone near her has actually been killed. And I know their next step well-enough..."

Now she was pissed again. "Wait, who is this guy?!" She demanded. "Lemme go beat him up!"
"No, no, let's just go find a place to sleep," Marcus argued from behind. He looked away when Ella glared at him, regretting having said anything.
"And I didn't mean you're in the 'murder business'," Ella went on. "I just meant I was wondering why Elizabeth's boyfriend was murdered. Jeez."

"sorry, it's a sensitive topic" Ed sighed "and, it's a warning. Why am I even telling you two this?" he added with a groan "maybe it's because it's been a long night, and I've been holding this in for awhile. The point is, I need to get my baggage cleared up before the operation goes after Lizzie directly. God, they know just how to get to me, don't they...?"

OOC: This is my last post, then I'm off to Dreamland. G'night!
BIC: "Well, uh, we ARE gonna be in town for a few days whether we like it or not, so maybe we could help you out, somehow? You do know the big secret, after all," Ella offered, kind of shrugging as she said it.

ooc: okay, g'night n_n~*
bic: Ed thought about it carefully as they came up to the doors of "The Silver Sparrow", a humble inn that was worth a lot more than it seemed. "I'm not sure..." he said quietly "I've got a bad feeling about this whole thing...tell you what" he added with a slight smile "get some rest, and we'll talk tomorrow, kapeisch?"

"Sure, fine," Ella said in disappointment. Going on a murderer hunt could have been a fun way to shake up the evening, but Ed wasn't having it. Instead, she pushed open the doors to the building where she and Marcus would be sleeping, and sighed. It seemed cozy and inviting, with a fireplace to boot. "Y'know, back where we're from, they don't have hotels or inns or whatever. Wanted to stay in town for a night? There's plenty of ground to sleep on," Ella grumbled. The thought of sleeping knowing that complete strangers were doing god-knows-what in rooms all around was downright disturbing to her.
"Well, at least it's warm, right?" Marcus pointed out, walking into the room and looking around. The timidness of the cat seemed to be wearing off, finally. "Now, how does this work?"

Ed frowned "you've never been in a hotel before? Wherever you're from it must be really out there..." he sighed, before adding "and, you don't need to worry about how it "works". Like I said before, the man running this place owes me a favor. This just happens to be the time for it. I'm going to go get your reservations all cleared up, you two get some rest, it's been a long night."
