ooc: oh boy XP this is gonna get interesting XD
bic: Ed mentally unleashed a string of curses that would give the ghost of his mother a heart attack as he tried to figure out the best way to talk his way out of this. They were kids, for crying out loud! It shouldn't be this difficult! "Like I said, it was only a simple job we were workin' on. But, we could only do it at night, and the authorities always jump on anything that can be considered vaguely suspcious at all. Now, do you want to stay somewhere warm tonight, or not?" Lies were always the best when they were technical truths.

"You know what? Stand aside, I'm looking in one of those crates," she said, beginning a determined march towards the boat.
Marcus shook his head in disbelief. This definetly wasn't the worst situation Ella had gotten herself mixed up in, but it was most certainly one of the most pointless. He slowly shuffled out of view, in case he really did need to shift and rescue her.

Ed went into desperation mode. He shouldn't've mentioned the pier until after he had gotten them into the city! Stupid, stupid, stupid! But, there was no time to beat himself up about it. "Kid, listen" he said, gently (well, as gentle as he could muster) placing a hand on her shoulder "you must be tired; it's cold, it's dark, you two need sleep, I can tell. You're just imagining things." he shot a look to the "guard" who, in turn, ran off to tell the others to finish off as fast as they could. They had to get the job done now.

She came so very close to punching Ed right in the face that it scared her a bit, but she was still determined to find out what was in the box. Using just a wee bit of discreet magic, she moved extremely quickly and practically tore the lid off of one the barrels. She peered inside, and to her disappointment saw nothing but some bottles of various drinks. "What? What the hell is this?" She asked, taking one out. She uncorked the bottle with her bare hands and took a sip, disregarding the looks of utter disbelief she was receiving. "This is disgusting."
Marcus sighed in relief. Hopefully now she would just back off and they could find some abandoned rooftop to sleep on.

"Because it's not for youngsters like you" Ed replied, trying to stay calm. He grabbed the bottle from her and set it in an indiscreet corner. "The point is. This is a very important delivery, and it cannot, under any circumstances, be delayed." he was being perfectly honest there. After all, when you take a loan from one of the big shots in town, it's best to pay your debts...unless you want to go for an impromptu swim but, that wasn't really Ed's thing. "Do you want to stay in the city for the night, or not?" he repeated

Seriously irritated and disappointed, Ella said, "Sure, whatever. I don't even care anymore."
Marcus ran back to his partner's side. "Hey, you gave it your best shot," he encouraged. "No need for any more antics, right?" Now addressing Ed, he asked, "So where are we going to be staying? I'm Marcus, by the way. This is Ella."

"Edward Valentine" Ed replied simply, relieved that he would live through the night. "The place I know is called the "Silver Sparrow". It's a bit small but, the service is high class to say the least, and besides, like I said, the guy in charge owes me a favor."

"Lead the way..." Ella said dejectedly. Marcus gave a her a small hug and let her rest her head on his shoulder as they walked.
"So, Edward, are you from around here?" Marcus asked, just trying to make friendly conversation to make up for the ass-whupping that nearly occurred.

"I just go by 'Ed', kid." he began "and, yes, I've been here my entire life." he fiddled with the inside of his coat pocket. God, he needed a cigarette...but, that would have to wait. First order of business, get the kids a place to stay. Even that would have to wait, however. Ed stopped in his tracks when he saw the police outside of a dance hall, talking to an all too familiar face. She was crying her eyes out, and the body they were carrying out seemed a bit too familiar to be comfortable. "Oh my God." he said in shock, before forgetting about Ella and Marcus, and running up to his sister "Lizzie! Oh, God, what happened?!"

Marcus glanced at Ella nervously. She returned with a look of uncertainty that said 'you could help...'. Marcus could easily shift into any number of forms that would allow him to heal someone, if they needed it, but none that wouldn't scare the living hell out of everyone else around. Still unsure of what to do, the duo followed their guide up to the crowd. "Let's just wait and see," Ella said quietly to Marcus.

After a few minutes of trying to comfort his little sister, Ed went up to the police and asked what had happened directly. "Poor kid got shot" the officer said bluntly "nothing we could do; he was already dead when we showed up" "But, did you find the culprit?" Ed asked. He had suspicions about who could've done it. Lizzie's last few companions (romantic or otherwise) had been "warning shots" too but, this was the first time any of them had been killed. The officer shook his head "It just happened in the last hour, boy; the bastard ran out before we even heard about it". Ed nodded and turned back towards Ella and Marcus. He had to get those kids out of there. But, on the other hand, Lizzie was an emotional wreck at the moment, and she definitely needed him there. Decisions decisions... it was a real shame though; he rather liked Anton...

OOC: Anton is the name of one of the characters in Marcus' and Ella's story. XD Did you know that or is this a pure coincidence?
BIC: Scared but excited, Ella dragged Marcus off to the side. "You could find the bad guy," she whispered urgently. "Just change into one of your sniffy beast things."
"But, if someone sees..."
"So what? If things get out of hand we can just leave without having to worry about magic. C'mon, we've gotta help."
He knew Ella was right, but he still felt queasy about it. The duo snuck into the building, and since nobody tried to stop them they assumed they hadn't been seen. They had walked into an abandoned lobby, so there wasn't any need to clear the room out, either.
Taking a steeling breath, Marcus shifted. A small blue haze covered his body as his default clothes disappeared, but within seconds he had shifted into a large wolf-like creature and was sniffing around the room trying to pick up a distinguishing scent or aura. Ella stayed back and watched the door.
Clearly a lot of people used this building, because it was hard to tell one sense from another, but eventually Marcus picked up on an exceptionally violent aura, and separated it from the rest. It lead straight back onto the street, so Marcus shifted back to human form, and the two walked back outside.

ooc: no XD I planned it to be short for "Anthony", because "Tony" just sounded a bit cliched XD
bic: Ed hadn't noticed the two walk off. Instead, he himself had slipped off to a small corner, and worriedly smoked a cigarette. He needed to be calm. There was nothing to worry about, right? But, oh...was that guy still mad about the one botched delivery, over Christmas? Well, he had no reason to, blizzards tend to slow production, after all. Maybe it was one of the big shots he borrowed cash from... However, he was very close to his goal, at the moment, yet, the deadline was coming in just a few days. He needed that cigarette, that was for sure. After managing to calm himself down, Ed walked back over to the scene, still torn over what to do with Lizzie, Ella, and Marcus. Family was first. But, the last thing he wanted was to leave two defenseless kids out in the streets of Chicago, in the middle of the night. Decisions decisions... he almost went back for another cigarette.

They hadn't taken two steps when Ella realized the major dilemma facing them. It was much harder to keep the aura in focus while in human form, so Marcus was staring at the ground with enough intensity to alarm anyone who didn't know why he was doing that. In fact, she had to wrap her arm around his neck just to get him to stop walking. "Crap crap craaap," she said frantically. They couldn't just walk off without telling Ed, but Ed was sure to notice Marcus' weirdness. She quickly looked around for him, but only saw his sister and the cops that were still gathered around. She thought maybe they could just skulk off and get away with it, so she kicked Marcus' heels and just followed him as quickly as she could.

Out of the corner of his eye, Ed saw the two rush by. "Hey! Where's the fire?" he questioned, stepping out of the alleyway and cutting them off. "you two couldn't wait? I wasn't going to leave you all alone out here, you know."
