"Anthony Barnabus Thompson, do you seriously think I've been thinking about what to do with these things?!" Heidi questioned "Seriously, they just appeared this morning! I don't know what they are, how they got on me, or even if they're real! And, another thing, just how can you see them, while everyone else can't?!"
She slumped down on the couch, the wings drooping in turn. "I have no clue what's going on at all..."

"Clearly it's because I am a black mage adept," Anthony replied nonchalantly, either unfazed by Heidi's frustration or simply oblivious to it. "Ooh, a death spell. That sounds practical."
Unable to take any more stupidity at the hands of this kid, Scrap ran and jumped onto Anthony's back, circling around a bit before lying down. "Oh hey there Scrapparoni!" Anthony said, absentmindedly scratching Scrap with one hand while still paging through the grimoire with the other. 'That's right, bitch,' Scrap thought happily. 'Keep it coming.'
"Hey, this looks useful," the black mage adept stated, stopping on a page about metamorphosis. "If I'm right in translating this indeterminate archaic language... Well, I think it's getting at something along the lines of: Natural metamorphosis art thou, with hastened breadth. ...Um, I think I got that 'natural metamorphosis' part right. You wouldn't happen to have access to the interwebs, would you?"

"No death spells." Heidi said sternly. "And, yes, I have my laptop, give me a moment to get it, alright? Keep Scrap company for me, please." she added, before running upstairs.
Meanwhile, Felix paced nervously outside. In all truth, he'd been eavesdropping a bit, and had heard most of the conversation "No, no, no! They don't get it! Gah...well...maybe it'll become clearer once more signs appear...but...how'd that kid get a Grimoire anyway?!" he exclaimed (albeit in a hushed tone; didn't want to get caught, after all). "Maybe I should start looking for the other children..." he thought for a moment, before shaking his head "No, no, that won't work. I've been assigned to keep an eye on a specific one, and that's what I'm gonna do!"

"Aw, Scrapmeister, you're just a big bundle of wuv, aren't you," Anthony said, scratching the cat's head affectionately. He was exactly where Scrap wanted him.
Enjoying the love (but not too much), Scrap glanced out the window. Felix had gone off somewhere, probably to creep on another innocent child. If what he said was true, life was about to get more interesting, and possibly very profitable. If Heidi had wings, there was no reason this black mage adept tool couldn't actually be magical. And if he was, life would be infinitely easier. There couldn't be any downside to having a wizard in the palm of his paw. None.

Thomas had gone out on the back porch, cigarette in hand. "Oh, God, no..." he muttered, trying to light it "this isn't happening..." he took a long draw of the smoke. He hadn't smoked since before Heidi was born, as a promise to her mother. But, boy did he ever need the tobacco now! It was true, he had seen the wings. He knew all too well what it meant. It was better to pretend he didn't; to perhaps make himself think it was all just a bad nightmare. But, no, he continued to see them throughout the day. Suddenly, he spotted a dark cloaked figure behind one of the trees.
Felix noticed all too late when Mr. White managed to sneak up behind him, and grab him by the throat. "You bastard!" He said, smoke on his breath "What the hell do you want with my daughter?"
"I don't know what you're talking about, I-"
"Don't play dumb with me; I know you people. Now answer the question: what do you want with my daughter?" Thomas repeated, rage growing with each word.
Felix gulped. He needed help; maybe Scrap was nearby? No, no, Felix had moved out of his line of sight. Then again, cats tended to have a sense of when danger was around. Perhaps he'd be able to figure out that something was amiss... but, for now, he had to improvise. "She's one of the children of the Valkryies, sir!" Felix gasped desperately "It's destiny! The time where we need her, and the rest of 'em, is here! You've gotta-"
"no" He snapped back "I don't want you, or anyone like you here. Now, get out! If I see your face around here again. And, if you go and tell your little friends about Heidi, then make sure to tell them that they'll have to get through me first, got it?"
"Y-yes, s-s-sir" Felix stuttered, struggling in Thomas' grip.
He let him go. "Good. And you damn well better not come back."
Felix ran off and hid in a nearby hedge. Thomas sighed "I had a bad feeling about today..." he grumbled

Feeling impatient, Anthony got off the couch and went into the kitchen, helping himself to a cookie from the cookie jar. He felt like such a rebel. After-dinner treat in hand, he ran up the stairs and located Heidi in her room. After taking just a moment to make sure she wasn't holding anything, he charged into the room and half hugged half tackled her, screaming "Friendship assault!" as he went. "Where's your laaaaaaptoooooop?" He whined, not letting go.
Not even dignifying that incident with an eye-roll, Scrap left Anthony's side to seek companionship elsewhere in the house. He found Thomas, who's aura was a deep red. He was pissed, for sure, but maybe a visit from his favorite cat would cheer him up? Scrap leapt onto the table closest to Thomas and meowed loudly to get his attention.

Heidi shook him off "Anthony, I think I just saw my dad talking with someone out in the yard..." she said quietly, gesturing to her window "They're gone now but, what do you think it was?" Heidi was a brave girl, naturally but, things that were out-of-the-ordinary tended to worry her more than other things...
Thomas took another long drag of smoke. He noticed the cat, and petted it affectionately "Hey, Scrap. You think we should move somewhere? Canada, maybe?" he asked jokingly "I'm worried...if those bastards are back, and they're coming for Heidi...well...I don't know what I'm going to do...she's everything to me, Scrap; you know that well enough. I don't want her getting hurt...God knows it was hard enough losing Batty but now my baby girl? I can't keep them away, that's for sure..." Thomas sighed "I know you're a cat, Scrap but, it just helps to talk to something. You probably aren't any help here, and I know that cats don't usually serve as guard "dogs" but, if you just happen to see any creeps in black cloaks, with a silver cross emblem on them, please scratch their eyes out for me..."

'Well this is a conflict of interest,' Scrap thought, pondering the pros and cons of each side. 'Hm... Maybe I can watch out for Heidi, but let Felix do whatever he wants with Anthony... Assuming he is magical. Maybe he's just a dumbass. Damn, I'm great at monologues. That's what I'll do.' The cat gave Thomas as assuring of a stare as possible, then went to go find Heidi and Anthony again.
"I'm sure your dad's fine. He's a grown-up, after all. It was probably just some tax collector trying out some sort of contemporary intimidation technique," Anthony replied, hoping his words lightened Heidi's mood. It was so lame seeing her upset, Anthony wasn't sure if he could stand it for long. Sighing, he grabbed Heidi's laptop off of her desk and turned it on. He had learned her password years ago. He opened up google and typed in 'indeterminate archaic languages'. After a bit of clicking and scowling, he found the language his grimoire was written in. "Here we go," he said happily, opening to the metamorphosis page again. He began to translate, already bored. "Well, something triggered it," he said, not looking up from the computer. "Eat any weird mushrooms lately? Says something about the environment having to do with your wings... I dunno if it means your general location, or the world, or nature, or what. Maybe it's 'cause your dad's smoking again?"

"Dad smoked?!" Heidi said, surprised "I never knew that..." she shook her head "It's not important now, I guess." the wings shuddered on her back a feather fell to the floor "I think they're becoming more solid..." she said, worried. "And, no, I didn't eat any weird mushrooms or anything. You know full well I hate mushrooms. Speaking of knowing well...remind me to change my password later." Heidi added, casting him a glare. She sighed "Maybe...maybe it's like in X-men, or something, where these powers just sort of...appear out of nowhere, or something...or maybe, it's like this one fic I read once, can't remember the title, where people could see these symbolic wings on others, representing someone's nature, or something...I don't know, it's just bothering me..."

"Um, X-Men is a movie, and this is real life," Anthony stated, looking at Heidi with confusion. "Two totally different things. And... Hey, y'know, maybe that dude your dad was talking to wasn't a tax collector. He was dressed like a cult member, after all. Perhaps he is... a cult member. DUN DUN DUN!!!! Maybe you should talk to him if he shows up again."
'Oh hell no,' Scrap thought angrily. He pounced on Anthony's lap, glaring at him. If Felix managed to get his creepy little hands on Heidi, Thomas would never treat Scrap the same. He couldn't allow that. If only he could tell Anthony that he should be the one to go talk to Felix... Too bad he was a cat. The language barrier was quite infuriating sometimes. Instead, he just subtly shook his head at Heidi.

"It's a comic, hun." Heidi replied quickly, before adding "and, you don't know. You believe in all that black magic. You have no right to tell me what's "real life"." She sighed "besides...a cult member? Really? I don't think it'd be a good idea to talk to some creep like that..." Heidi noticed scrap doing his little cat speak "See? even Scrap thinks it's a bad idea, and he's a cat!"
Meanwhile, Felix was hiding out in the shrubbery. "I've gotta figure out some way to convince Mr. White to trust me..." he began, before shaking his head and sighing "No...he'd never do that...maybe I can ask Scrap to help me out..." Felix snuck around, trying to avoid the ever-watchful eyes of Thomas White, and tried to think of how he could get a message to Scrap...

Anthony put on a sad face and dropped his head. "Ms. White, your remarks do hurt me so," he said quietly, but then perked up again and said normally, "And besides, you have wings! Who're you to say what's real or not? Say, do you wanna go somewhere less in-doors and see if you can fly with those things? That'd be pretty cool, y'know?"
This time Scrap nodded ever so slightly at his owner. If for no other reason than he wanted to see someone face-plant as a result of this.

ooc: *yawns* it be time for me to go to bed, so, here's my turn, and then, I'm off. g'night n_n~*
bic: Heidi sighed "do you really think that's such a good idea? I could really hurt myself you know..." she noticed Scrap nodding at this idea "don't encourage him." she added quickly. "But...then again..." Heidi said thougtfully, as she stepped onto her bed "this seems to be a pretty safe height..." She jumped, the wings did their work "Oh my God!" Heidi exclaimed, "I'm actually flying! Well, hovering but, God, this is unbelievable!" the wings stopped, she fell back to the floor "What do you think this means?!"

"Means?" Anthony repeated, tilting his head thoughtfully. "Maybe it doesn't mean anything. Maybe you just happened to evolve to the next stage of human development over night coincidentally? Then again... Maybe the 'meaning' of the wings is for you to go on some crazy super awesome quest and I'll be the lovable sidekick!" This possibility seemed much more appealing.
Scrap was disappointed that no face-plant occurred, so he waltzed over to the window and glanced down. When he spotted Felix hovering beneath the bedroom, he let out a small hiss of frustration. Quickly he ran out of the room, jumped back out the still open window, and went up to the man. "You creepy-ass pedophile," he greeted. "What are you still doing here? What's the issue?"

"She's 19, I think, and I'm 18, so don't go making such accusations!" Felix exclaimed in a panic. "But, listen, Scrap, you've gotta help me! Mr. White doesn't trust me, and he'll probably make me sleep with the fishes if I try and ask Heidi for help in preventing the end of the world as we know it! Any ideas?" he panted, out of breath.
"I don't know about that, Anthony..." Heidi said with a sigh "It's just so strange...maybe...do you think there are others like this?"
